Initially, a driver who hit a 6-year-old boy on a scooter did the right thing, police said, taking the injured child to his mother.

But then the woman fled, and now police are seeking the public's help to identify her, Westtown-East Goshen Det. William Cahill says.

Cahill said the child, who is not being identified, has been released from the A.I. DuPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington with a head injury and broken bones. Cahill said the child's prognosis is good; however, the recovery process is expected to be lengthy.

The accident occurred Friday evening between 6 and 6:15 in the Rose Hill Apartments in the 1300 block of West Chester Pike in East Goshen Township, police said.

The boy was riding a scooter across the main driveway in the apartment complex when he was struck by a dark-colored passenger vehicle, police said. The driver was described as a white female between 20 and 30 years of age with dark hair pulled back in a ponytail.

After the accident, the driver took the child to his apartment and told the boy's mother that she hit the boy, police said. The driver told the boy's mother that she left her vehicle running and needed to turn it off; however, she left the apartment and never returned, police said.

Anyone with information on the driver or the vehicle is urged to call the Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Department Regional Police Department at 610-692-5100.
