Man sentenced in Camden killing

A Camden man was sentenced Friday to 20 years in state prison for killing a man from the Parkside section of Camden in 2008 and then dumping his body, the Camden County Prosecutor's Office said.

Keenan Vera, 41, of South Fourth Street, pleaded guilty in May to aggravated manslaughter in the shooting death of Ronald Custis, 32, the Prosecutor's Office said.

Vera pulled out a gun that he knew was loaded during an argument with Custis, authorities said. In his plea, Vera said the gun went off and the shot hit Custis in the head.

Vera took Custis' body to Pyne Poynt Park in North Camden, the Prosecutor's Office said. A park employee found Custis' remains at 7:18 a.m. on May 29, 2008, authorities said.    - Darran Simon
