Man, 60, critical after jumping from burning home

A 60-year-old man is in critical condition this morning after jumping from the third floor of a burning North Philadelphia home, according to the fire department.

A 60-year-old man is in critical condition this morning after jumping from the third floor of a burning North Philadelphia home, according to the fire department.

Firefighters responded shortly before 4:30 a.m. to tackle the one-alarm blaze in the 2600 block of West Lehigh Avenue.

The man, who suffered severe burns and multiple fractures, was taken to Temple University Hospital, said Acting Battalion Chief Carl Grymes of the fire department.

A woman who suffered smoke inhalation was in stable condition at Temple, he said.

The cause of the fire, which was controlled by 4:48 p.m., is under investigation.
