A 24-year-old pregnant woman was charged with driving under the influence after she crashed her car into a Cherry Hill home Monday, police said Tuesday.

Carina Madison of Cherry Hill also was issued a summons for careless driving, Lt. William Kushina said.

Madison was driving north on Woodcrest Road, approaching a traffic signal at the T-intersection with Burnt Mill Road, when she ran a red light about 9:30 p.m., Kushina said.

She drove a 2005 Chevy over a lawn and garden bed, between the garage and living room wall of the home in the 1600 block of Burnt Mill Road, Kushina said. The car hurtled about nine feet into the home, he said.

"It's the first I can recall of an apparently intoxicated pregnant female," Kushina said.

Police didn't release the results of the breath test Madison took. She refused medical treatment, Kushina said, and released after she was charged. A hearing is scheduled Thursday.

Virginia Rosario, 62, who shares the residence with her sister, said she had fallen asleep on the couch while watching TV in the living room.

The thud of the TV falling to the floor woke her, she said.

"I didn't even hear the crash," Rosario said. "I didn't even see the hole in the house. I just saw the TV and thought, 'How did that happen?' "

Her sister, Olmiraida Medina, 54, came running downstairs.

"Are you OK?" Medina shouted.

Rosario was uninjured, Kushina said.

Madison's license was suspended, Kushina said, but she has not been charged with driving with a suspended license.

The Chevy ran over a Japanese maple tree, traveled between a metal traffic pole and another tree, but missed Medina's SUV, which was parked in front of the garage.
