Jimmy Rollins robo-calls for Specter

Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins may be on the disabled list, but he's in the lineup for Democratic Sen. Arlen Specter.

Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins may be on the disabled list, but he's in the lineup for Democratic Sen. Arlen Specter.

Rollins' voice stars in a robo-call that urges registered Democrats to back Specter in the May 18 primary.

"Sen. Specter has proven he's on our team," Rollins says in the call, targeted at voters in Philadelphia.

Specter joined the Democratic Party last year after nearly three decades as a GOP senator. He faces a challenge from Rep. Joe Sestak, of Delaware County's Seventh District.

Rollins praised Specter as a "champion" for President Obama's economic stimulus plan which "helped keep vital services in our city" such as police, fire and schools. The ballplayer also said that Specter was an important backer of the health-care overhaul program.

The robo-calls are paid for by the Pennsylvania Democratic Party.
