‘Friend’ sets fire to woman’s face in South Phila.

A dispute between friends turned violent this morning when a woman threw a flammable liquid into another woman's face and set her on fire in a South Philadelphia apartment, police said.

The victim, 39, was taken to Temple University Hospital with first- and second-degree burns to her face and chest. Her condition has not been released. Her injuries are not life-threatening, said Capt. Laurence Nodiff.

Police are looking for the suspect.

The fire marshall is still trying to determine what type of liquid was used, Nodiff said.

The relationship between the two has not been spelled out.

The incident unfolded about 8:25 a.m. when firefighters responded to a report of a fire in an apartment on second floor of a building the 800 block of S. 16th Street in the Southwest Center City neighborhood.

When firefighters arrived, they found the woman on the street, officials said. She told them gasoline had been thrown in her face and set on fire.

The firefighters immediately summoned police and a fire battalion chief ordered fire marshals to the scene.

No fire was found in the building.
