Tiger Woods gives ‘proposition’ bets new meaning

Will Tiger Woods wear his Buddhist bracelet at the Masters next week? Will his wife, Elin Nordegren, be there? How about any of the many self-professed mistresses?

Will Tiger Woods wear his Buddhist bracelet at the Masters next week?

Will his wife, Elin Nordegren, be there?

How about any of the many self-professed mistresses?

Bettors can place all sorts of wild wagers related to the world's most famous golfer/cheater.

Gives a whole new meaning to proposition bet.

One can even cash in if Woods mentions actress Sandra Bullock, who has learned a lot about extramarital media obsessions, courtesy of hubbie, Jessie James. That bet and the others above are listed under golf "futures" at betus.com.

London's Ladbrokes.com has "priced him up . . . to have a fight with a fan on the first tee, to kiss an anonymous blonde - which doesn't include [golfer John] Daly, we point out," said spokesman Nick Weinberg.

Bodog.com has bets on whether Woods will be heckled, what color hat he'll wear, whether any sponsor besides Nike will run a Tiger Woods ad, and whether the TV ratings will peak over or under 20.3 during the tournament.

Masters betting has soared, says Richard Gardner, Bodog sportsbook manager. "Our current action is double what it was last year at this time and we only expect that to get higher and higher as the tournament nears."

The first round is scheduled for Thursday.

Normally, propositions, sometimes called specials or novelties, are unrelated to who will win and what the score will be.

Super Bowl props, for instance, range from length of the National Anthem to number of on-camera shots of a player's famous beau or family member.

Most of the prop bets on Woods are still golf-related, such as whether he'll get a hole-in-one or knock a ball in the water during the tourney.

London bookmaker William Hill expects to add prop bets over the weekend, spokesman Rupert Adams said. "Things like: Will he have an argument? Will he throw a club? Will he break a club in anger? Will there be a streaker on the final green?"
