Pa. Turnpike tolls go up this weekend

Tolls on the Pennsylvania Turnpike will go up 3 percent - rounded up to the nearest nickel - starting 12:01 a.m. Sunday.

Tolls on the Pennsylvania Turnpike will go up 3 percent - rounded up to the nearest nickel - starting 12:01 a.m. Sunday.

The increase follows a 25-percent hike a year ago. Under the terms of Act 44, which was signed into law in 2007, most of the additional revenues will go to PennDOT for non-Turnpike road and bridge projects and the state's 73 mass-transit operations.

The most-common cash rate for passenger vehicles is 95 cents and, instead of going up to 98 cents under a 3 percent increase, it will be rounded up to $1, the Turnpike Authority said.

The most-common rate for commercial vehicles will increase from $7.85 to $8.10.

The authority anticipates increasing tolls by 3 percent annually to meet the requirement of Act 44.
