Montco insurance agent charged with bilking elderly

State investigators have charged a 61-year-old Norristown insurance agent with bilking 14 elderly clients out of $45,000 in premiums for policies he never bought.

Attorney General Tom Corbett's office today identified the man as Brian Johnson, of the 3000 block of Congress Road.

Johnson owns Valley Forge Insurance Group Inc., an agency formerly at 102-C W. Germantown Pike, Norristown. It is now at 401 W. Johnson Highway in East Norriton Township. Johnson can continue operating while his case is being heard, said Lauren C. Bozart, spokeswoman for the Attorney General's office.

According to a complaint, Johnson took money from the clients, aged 75 to 96, but never sent it to insurance carriers for life insurance and long-term care policies.

Johnson is charged with 14 counts each of theft and related charges, plus one count of insurance fraud, Corbett said. The victims were from Gap, Malvern, Pottstown, Gwynedd, Harleysville, Philadelphia, and other places in the state.

Johnson was arraigned yesterday before Magisterial District Judge Ester J. Casillo in Norristown, and released on $10,000 unsecured bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for next Wednesday.
