Driver fatally shot in W. Philadelphia

Gunfire took the life of a driver on the way to pick up his son in West Philadelphia this morning.

Shorty before 10 a.m., Dominic McRae, 28, was in the 5200 block of Catharine Street, heading to his father's house near 58th and Larchwood Streets, when his car was hit by at least eight bullets, according to police.

Struck in the back of the head and a thigh, McRae lost control of the vehicle, which crashed into several other vehicles.

He was pronounced dead at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania at 10:09 a.m.

An injured person in another vehicle was also taken to HUP.

Shell casings indicated at least 11 shots were fired, probably by a single shooter, who fled, according to Sgt. Frank Hayes, an investigator at the scene.

Dominic McRae worked as a food preparer at Temple University, according to his father, Milton.
