Cousin of basketball star sentenced in killing

The cousin of basketball star Tyreke Evans was sentenced today for the murder of a Delaware County man and will serve at least nine years in prison.

Jamar Evans was 16 at the time he fired a gun from the passenger side of a Ford Expedition and killed Marcus Reason of Chester in November 2007. Tyreke Evans, who was behind the wheel of the SUV, drove off. He was not charged in the crime. Jamar Evans turned himself in to police about a month later.

Reason was unarmed and police suspect the incident might have been gang-related. Reason was working two jobs at the time of his death - as a cook and with a limousine company - and had plans to go to school, according to family members.

In January, Jamar Evans pleaded guilty to third degree murder and weapons offenses.

Tyreke Evans, who played one season at the University of Memphis, is expected to be in the top 10 in Thursday's NBA draft.

Meanwhile, Brinkley was asking nurses: "Am I going to be able to play football again?" Brinkley, who still holds the city-league record for rushing, had just been signed by the Chargers.
