High school wrestler killed while crossing street

A 16-year-old Pottsgrove High School junior was killed Monday night after a car hit him as he crossed a Lower Pottsgrove street, police said.

The boy's name wasn't released, but The Mercury newspaper in Pottstown, citing unnamed sources, identified him as Timothy Paciello.

The teen was crossing High Street near Sunnyside Avenue just before 9 p.m. Monday when he was hit while standing in the center left turn only lane, police said.

He was flown to Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia for treatment, but he died shortly after arrival.

The driver who hit him, a 43-year-old Collegeville woman, stayed on the scene and voluntarily provided blood to police for analysis, police said.

School district officials assembled a "crisis team" and are offering grief counselors to Paciello's classmates today.

Paciello was a wrestler on the high school's Falcons wrestling team, according to various regional sports websites. He attended the district's Western Montgomery Career and Technology Center, according to the school district's website.
