Arcadia names interim president

Arcadia University named a former U.S. senator and college president in Colorado as its interim president, effective July 1.

George Hanks "Hank" Brown, 77, former president of the University of Colorado, will lead the Glenside-based school as it continues a national search for its next president.

He replaces Nicolette DeVille Christensen, who announced in January that she would depart this June, following a year with a deficit and an exodus of members from the university's board of trustees.

Brown is not a candidate for the permanent president's post, a university spokesman said.

Brown left the Senate in 1996 and served as president of the University of Northern Colorado from 1998 to 2002 and president of the University of Colorado from 2005 to 2008.

Brown, a lawyer, currently is senior counsel in Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck's Denver office,

He earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Colorado, a master's degree in law from George Washington University and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Colorado School of Law. He's also a certified public accountant.
