A large civic association near the Center City applicant for Philadelphia's second casino license has given a nod to the plans for Market8, which proposes building a casino on top of what is currently a parking lot at Eighth and Market streets.

The casino announced Thursday the approval by Washington Square West Civic Association for the proposed development. The civic group's zoning chair said Market8 has the potential to stimulate economic growth along the Market Street corridor east of City Hall.

"MARKET8’s numerous restaurants, concert venue, and casino will bring much-needed activity to Market Street,” Jonathan Broh said. "This project, along with plans to extend the casino’s Rewards Program into the business community, will complement other planned developments in the area and catalyze positive growth."
