Undercover cops foil alleged luring attempt
A Bridgewater, N.J. man was arrested last week after attempting to arrange a sexual encounter with a person he believed to be an underage girl, according to a release from the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office.
Investigators said Reid Klauber, 52, was taken into custody last Tuesday after he showed up at a predetermined rendezvous spot in Bordentown Township. Klauber allegedly anticipated meeting up with a 15-year-old girl who he thought he’d been chatting with online for several days.
But, according to authorities, the “girl” was actually an undercover detective with the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office High Tech Crimes Unit, which proactively targets reputed sexual predators.
Police said Klauber had beer, wine, vodka and $100 in cash in his vehicle at the time of his arrest. He is charged with attempting to commit sexual assault and attempted luring through electronic means.
Klauber was released after posting $150,000 bail. Investigators said the case will be referred to a grand jury for indictment.
