Two officers injured in police-cruiser crash

Two Philadelphia police officers suffered minor injuries Saturday morning during a car crash in East Mount Airy.

The incident happened shortly before 10:15 a.m. at Stenton and Mt. Airy avenues, police said.

A marked patrol car traveling north on Stenton Avenue struck a second police cruiser that was traveling east on Mt. Airy Avenue, according to investigators.

Police said both of the units were responding to the same priority radio call for backup.

The officers who were driving the cars were taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center. They were expected to be treated for their injuries and released, police said.

The patrol cars sustained heavy damage - one to its front end and the second to its rear passenger side, police said.

No other vehicles were believed to have been involved in the crash, and no additional injuries were reported.

Officers with the Accident Investigation Division were continuing to review the crash Saturday afternoon.
