Officials are investigating a fire at an East Mt. Airy apartment building that injured two people early Sunday. Authorities have deemed the blaze suspicious.

The fire broke out shortly before 2:30 a.m. inside the four-story Chestnut Terrace apartment complex at 7412 Stenton Ave., officials said.

Medics rushed a 56-year-old man to Temple University Hospital. A 61-year-old woman was taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center to be treated for smoke inhalation, according to 6ABC.

Officials reportedly described both victims' injuries as non-life-threatening.

The fire was brought under control shortly before 3:15 a.m., the fire department said.

Deputy Chief Eric Fleming told reporters on the scene that the Fire Marshal's preliminary findings suggest two separate fires were set - one on the building's first floor, and a second on its third floor. He said a strong odor of gasoline was present, as well.

Fleming also said police were questioning a person in connection with the blaze. No arrests had been reported Sunday morning.
