Tornado watch issued for Philly area

A tornado watch has been issued for the Philadelphia area, the National Weather Service says.

The weather service says the watch is in effect until 10 p.m. and means conditions are favorable for possible tornadoes, severe thunderstorms, hail and strong winds.

A storm now over central Pennsylvania will be moving east through the afternoon and evening. Forecasters say wind gusts up to 70 mph are possible.

The watch covers Philadelphia, Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery counties in Pennsylvania. South Jersey counties covered include Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, Ocean and Salem.

Other areas in North Jersey, Maryland, Washington, D.C., Virginia and Delaware are also under the tornado watch.

A tornado touched down in Delaware earlier this month.
