Terrorists try to join the CIA

The agency also spends millions investigating its own, according to a document the Washington Post obtained from Edward Snowden.

Infiltration by people with ties to terrorist groups is a major worry at the CIA, according to a Washington Post report.

Some job seekers were found to have connections to groups such as Hamas, Hezbollah and al-Qaeda, and the agency apparently has millions of dollars targeted at investigating its own staff, according to a classified budget document obtained by the Post from ex-National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden.

Among job applicants with questionable backgrounds, about one-fifth  had “significant terrorist and/or hostile intelligence connections,” according to the document.

Overall, the number was “small,” an anonymous CIA source told the Post.

“So sharp is the fear of threats from within that last year the NSA planned to launch at least 4,000 probes of potentially suspicious or abnormal staff activity after scrutinizing trillions of employee keystrokes at work,” the Post reports.

The 4,000 would not include contractors like Snowden, a fugitive now living in Moscow who obtained and released classified information about federal agencies accessing the phone and Internet records of millions of Americans.
