Two shot minutes, blocks apart in Overbrook
A 15-year-old boy was shot along the 6700 block of Leeds Street in Overbrook. About a half-hour later, a 24-year-old man was shot along the 6700 block of Lebanon Street.
Philadelphia police are investigating a pair of shootings that took place minutes apart Saturday night in Overbrook.
A 15-year-old boy was shot in the right side of his neck, his lower back, and his upper right leg shortly before 11 p.m. along the 6700 block of Leeds Street, police said.
Officers rushed him to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was placed in critical but stable condition.
There wasn't word on a motive for the crime. Police described the suspect only as a black man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.
Shortly after 11:30 p.m., an officer investigating the shooting scene heard a gunshot, police said.
About five minutes later, a woman was seen helping a 24-year-old man with blood on his shirt walk down 67th Street toward Leeds. She called out to officers, and the man told them he'd been shot, police said.
Officers took him to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was treated for a gunshot wound to his right bicep and the right side of his torso and placed in stable condition.
Investigators received information that the victim and a friend were earlier in the evening outside on the 6700 block of Lebanon Avenue – about two blocks north of Leeds – and saw a silver crossover-type vehicle drive by, then stop. The driver called out a name to the victim, who replied the name was not his, police said. The vehicle then sped away.
The victim and his friend briefly went inside a home along the block, police said. When they came back outside, they saw the same silver vehicle parked on the street. The same man who had earlier called out to the victim exited the vehicle and shot him once, police said.
That suspect is described as a 5-foot-3 to 5-foot-5-inch black male with a short, full beard. He was last seen wearing a black skullcap, black pants, and a black hooded sweatshirt, police said.
It wasn't immediately clear if the two shootings were related or the same gunman was suspected to be responsible for both. No arrest was reported in connection with either incident, as of Sunday afternoon.
