Stray dog disrupts Market-Frankford Line service

For certain transit riders, Thursday night's commute was rough.

A stray dog wandered onto the tracks leading into Millbourne Station along SEPTA's Market-Frankford Line on Thursday night and delayed service for about 40 minutes, an official said.

A train operator spotted the dog about 6:25 p.m., according to Manny Smith, a SEPTA spokesman.

After failing to scare the dog away with the train's horn, workers shut off power to the station so a group of SEPTA police officers could climb onto the tacks.

After chasing the dog up and down the tracks, the elusive pooch was taken into custody.

"He's OK," Smith said, "and he was turned over to Delaware County Animal Control."

The dog's interference, coupled with another tracking issue, caused service delays along the entire rail line.

Trains didn't stop at 69th Street Transportation Center or Millbourne for about 30 minutes due to the disruption.

Several transit riders took to Twitter to express their displeasure and confusion regarding the incident.
