Snower Merion's emergency declaration

In second place with its declaration of a snow emergency ... Lower Merion Township! Here's the 411 on the impending 911.

Snower Merion's emergency declaration

Just in from Lower Merion Township officials:

"In advance of a major winter storm forecast to impact the region Sunday evening and throughout the day Monday, Lower Merion Township is declaring a snow emergency to take effect at 2 p.m. Sunday through the duration of the storm.

"The declaration alerts residents not to park in cul-de-sacs and on emergency snow routes. Residents are reminded to park on the even sides of the street in 2014.

"Information about Library hours, trash and recycling pickups and other Township service operations will be provided in forthcoming notifications.

"Residents are reminded to TREAT ANY DOWNED WIRE AS A LIVE, CHARGED WIRE.

"CALLING 9-1-1: For an emergency of any kind, at any time, call 9-1-1. During and after the storm, call 9-1-1 to report:

  • Downed wires
  • Fallen trees blocking roadways or endangering overhead wires
  • Medical emergencies
  • Police and Fire emergencies

"CONTACTING PECO: All residents experiencing a power outage should contact PECO directly at 1-800-841-4141. Reporting gas and electric outages to this number assures that the specific address is added to the PECO database, used to determine which locations will be a priority for repair crew response. Having one resident per block call PECO is not sufficient - EVERY RESIDENT WITHOUT POWER should call PECO at 1-800-841-4141, and it is recommended that the number be pre-programmed into cell phones.

"CONTACTING THE TOWNSHIP: For general information or questions, call (610) 649-1000."
