Small explosion reported at Northeast Philly high school

Crews are probing a small explosion that occurred Tuesday night at a Northeast Philadelphia high school.

Officials received a call shortly before 7:15 p.m. reporting a possible chemical leak coming from The Arts Academy at Benjamin Rush, located on the 11000 block of Knights Road, according to investigators.

Authorities found that an acid hazmat box had exploded in the school’s basement, according to police. The fire department declared the scene to be a hazmat situation shortly before 7:30 p.m.
