Shots fired at July 4th party in Cherry Hill motel room

A party at a Cherry Hill motel spun out of control early this morning when two men began shooting at each other, managing to squeeze off six rounds without hurting anyone - even though one of the bullets traveled into a nearby apartment building.

Police in Cherry Hill said they were called at 12:02 a.m. Friday after someone reported gunshots were fied at America's Best Value Inn on Route 70 on the township's west side.

Officers traced the incident to a party being held in one of the rooms. No injuries were reported, and police were able to gather few details from attendees of the party.

Six shell casings were found in the motel's lot and a spent casing was recovered from inside an apartment within the nearby Bishop’s View complex.

The two men said to have fired the shots had fled by the time police arrived.

However, police arrested two men at the scene who were wanted in connection with previous outstanding warrants. They were: Myles K. Truitt, 20, of the 2200 block of Mulford Avenue Pennsauken, and  Miles J. Taylor, 21, of the 4700 block of Lafayette Avenue in Pennsauken.

Police ask anyone with information to call the Cherry Hill Police Department’s 24 hour line at 856-488-7828.
