Man shot overnight across from City Hall

Police are searching for two suspects in the critical shooting of a 38-year-old attempted robbery victim overnight in Center City, just across from City Hall.

The shooting took place about 2:43 a.m. at the northeast corner of 15th and John F. Kennedy Boulevard in a stairwell near the plaza at the Municipal Services Building. A bullet struck the man on the left side of his stomach. He was able to get into a white, Nissan Altima driven by his brother who took him a short distance until he found a 9th District police officer.

Local news media including, NBC10 and 6ABC, were reporting that the shooting stemmed from an attempted robbery of a trio who stopped at Love Park to take photographs. NBC10 says the suspects approached the victims about 2:30 a.m.  The victims fled during the attempted robbery and one, the 38-year-old, was gunned down.

Police reports said the bandits fled on foot on 15th Street, toward Arch Street.

Chief Inspector Scott Small told reporters at the scene that eight shots were fired from a handgun based on large-caliber casings found nearby.

Police are searching for two black males, both in the range of 26- to 28-years-old, about 5'10", weighing about 180 lbs. and wearing blue jeans.  One was wearing a black hoodie; the other, a tan hoodie.
