I thought the tea party movement was all about transparency. Doesn’t seem that way in the Philly burbs.

Tea party groups from southeastern Pennsylvania are hosting a Republican candidates’ forum tonight at the Quality Inn Conference Center in Montgomeryville. It’s being billed on tea party Web sites as “an evening of frank discussion between the Tea Party Coalition and those candidates who seek our votes for public service.”

Then there’s this: “The entire event is OFF THE RECORD as we expect a forthright but respectful conversation. No recording or video devices will be permitted.” What?

There’s a time and place for off the record, but this clearly ain’t it, with a major election less than two months away. Why can’t the candidates be on the record and “frank” simultaneously, so the rest of the electorate can hear what they have to say?

The Valley Forge Patriots Web site lists the attendees as: Gubernatorial candidate Tom Corbett and congressional candidates Mike Fitzpatrick, Dee Adcock and Pat Meehan. (Meehan’s campaign says he’s not attending due to a previously scheduled event. I haven't heard back from the Corbett or Fitzpatrick campaigns. Adcock is attending).

GOP sources say the event was closed to the press at the request of the tea party groups, not the candidates. I haven’t heard back from the tea party organizers about why it’s off the record, but I was invited to talk to the candidates “before and after the forum,” which is kind of like talking to them before and after a debate, but waiting outside during the debate itself.

They're just emulating the President when he hosted REPORTERS for an "off the record" luncheon.

Funny how you were complaining about transparency from our ELECTED officials when it involved the government takeover of health care especially when they promised it. And I don't see any of transparency with regards to the conversations that took place between Obama and then president of the SEIU Andy Stern who visited Obama so much I lost track. Fact is Democrats took over Congress in 2006 and since then spending and the deficit have gone through the roof while the economy has tanked. That is no coincidence. Time to send Dems packing because too many people are unemployed because of their Socialist policies.

MOre than likely the candidates want it that way. Az sen kyl said the gop wasn't going to release any platform details because the media might ask questions. How's that for transparency? Actually, we can see right through them because they offer nothing concrete, just stop whatever Obama tries to do.

Irresponsibleamerican, did youo cry for tranparency duriong the bush years when the gop ran everything? Don't think so. How about when Haliburton got all those no-bid contracts, including the one to build showers that electrocuted our troops. Fact is, since bush's tax cuts, the deficit had gone through the roof, they were never paid for as advertised, they produced none of the jobs they promised, abd bush'd deficits outpaced the previous 200 years combined. Now the repubs are still pushing tax cuts for the rich, which they will not admit won't pay for themselves and add trillions more to the deficit. It's time to send the repubs packing for the sake of the country.

Scared of the tea party bill? Your 1st line sums up your obvious bias. Get ready to give the country back. Sorry most Americans don't care for your liberal agenda. Bye.

Mike 1, What color is the sky in your world? The repubs were sent packing in 2006 and since then the deficit has been rising exponentially. I know you are incapable of accepting facts that don't support your beliefs, that is what makes you the quintesential democrat.

Politics has the art of ultimate hypocracy. We want to "take our country back" but, we don't want to answer any questions! Pure B.S.

jcc1960, yes that's the ticket! Tea Party supporters just love "emulating the President". You must be onto something.

The new "KNOW NOTHING PARTY" is hosting a triple secret meeting for elections for public office. Will their candidates run a secret government if they win?

"Transparency" is an Obumble word. When did the TEA Party ever use it? By the way, Obumble doesn't know the meaning of the word.
