A second man was arrested Wednesday in connection with last month's ambush slaying of 22-year-old George Hashimbey in Pottstown.
Philadelphia police officers took Daquan Hamilton, 20, into custody at a home on the 5800 block of North 21st Street in East Germantown. Hamilton was arraigned and charged with first-degree murder. He is jailed without bail at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility.
Officers shortly after 12:30 a.m. Dec. 27 responded to the King Street Commons Apartments for a report of a shooting. An investigation allegedly revealed Hamilton and 21-year-old Khaleef Jones, each armed with a handgun, forced their way into a fifth-floor apartment and shot two of the three men inside. Hashimbey died at the scene. A second victim, whose identity has not been released, was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
Prosecutors three days later issued arrest warrants for Hamilton and Jones. Jones was at the time already jailed in Philadelphia after being arrested for unlicensed firearm offenses, according to court records. He was transferred to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility to face murder charges.
Hamilton is next due in court Jan. 16 for a preliminary hearing, while Jones will undergo a preliminary hearing Jan. 10, court documents state.
Jones is also awaiting sentencing, set for Jan. 22, after he two months ago pleaded guilty in Philadelphia to driving under the influence of a controlled substance.
