Road closures, detours in Philadelphia this weekend

A parade, race and maintenance work are prompting road closures and SEPTA service adjustments this weekend.

On Saturday, Drexel Cycling's Philly Phlyer bicycle race in West Fairmount Park means a number of roads will be closed to traffic, according to Philadelphia police. Streets that will be shut down from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. are:

- Martin Luther King King Dr. from the Philadelphia Museum of Art to the Falls Bridge
- Lansdowne Drive from Girard Avenue to 41st Street
- Avenue of the Republic from East Memorial Hall to 41st Street
- South Concourse Drive from Belmont Avenue to 41st Street
- Ford Road from Chamounix Drive to the Strawberry Mansion Bridge
- Chamounix Drive from Ford Road to Greenland Drive
- Strawberry Mansion Bridge

Also Saturday, motorists on the east side of Fairmount Park will also face traffic disruptions. Southbound traffic on a stretch of Kelly Drive will be reduced to a single lane, starting at 6 a.m., so the Streets Department can repair the guide rail.

The lane closures will take place from about a half-mile north of Boathouse Row through Boathouse Row and should end by 6 p.m. Northbound lanes and the pedestrian and bicycle path are not expected to be affected.

On Sunday, street closures in Center City will be in place for the Greek Independence Day parade, which starts at 1 p.m.

The Benjamin Franklin Parkway will be closed from 16th to 23rd streets from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Vehicles will also not be able to drive around Eakins Oval.

SEPTA said bus routes 2, 7, 32, 33, 38, 43 and 48 will be detoured off the parkway during that time.

On SEPTA's rails, shuttle buses will replace trains on the Manayunk/Norristown Regional Rail line between the Elm Street and Conshohocken stations.

The shuttle buses will be in effect all day on both Saturday and Sunday for a track-and-signal-improvement project, the transit agency said.

Riders should check SEPTA's schedule for the busing timetable.
