Probe investigates sleeping Philly cops

Two Philadelphia police officers are under investigation after a photo of them sleeping in a squad car surfaced on social media over the weekend.

"If someone was able to walk up that close and take a photo, that's very dangerous. They don't know what's going on around them," said department spokesman Lt. John Stanford. "The danger is we could be burying two officers."

Stanford confirmed that Internal Affairs launched a probe.

"We need to make sure they didn't violate any additional department policies" Stanford said.

The photo was taken early Saturday morning in the 24th District and widely circulated on Twitter.

Stanford expressed frustration at how the image reflected on the department.

"We have a lot of cops who come to work every day who work their butts off. The picture doesn't represent them," Stanford said. "We have hundreds of men and women working last-out every night who do their jobs right." "Last-out" is what Philadelphia police call the overnight shift.
