Video: Police seek suspect in sexual assault of Temple student

Philadelphia police on Friday released surveillance video depicting a suspect in the sexual assault of a Temple University student that occurred earlier in the week.

Philadelphia police on Friday released surveillance video depicting a suspect in the sexual assault of a Temple University student that occurred earlier in the week.

The victim, a 20-year-old woman, told police she was attacked Monday night around 11:15 p.m., after she left the university's library.

She was initially walking with a friend, but the two parted ways at Broad Street and Cecil B. Moore Avenue, police said.

The victim then continued along the 1400 block of North Carlisle Street, where she heard footsteps behind her.

As she turned around, a man approached her, struck her on the arm with a small silver handgun, and told her not to scream, police said.

He then pushed her toward a construction area and up against a wall, causing her to strike her head.

After sexually assaulting the woman, the man fled north on Carlisle, toward Oxford Street, police said.

He is described as a 6-foot-tall black man in his mid-20s, last seen sporting a goatee and wearing a gray beanie cap, a green or gray vest over a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt, and blue jeans.

A man fitting the suspect's description was captured by surveillance cameras before the assault, as he entered a southbound SEPTA subway train from Erie Station, police said.

That man is wanted for questioning in connection with the case.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911, to contact the Special Victims Unit at 215-685-3251 or 3252, or to submit a tip online.
