Two suspects have been charged in connection with the shooting Thursday night of a man whose girlfriend's purse was stolen, police announced Saturday.

Rasheed Hall, 26, and Clinton Brown, 20, are each charged with robbery, theft, assault, possessing an instrument of crime, making terroristic threats and reckless endangerment, according to court documents. In addition, Hall faces numerous firearm and drug offenses.

Police responded shortly before midnight Thursday to a report of a person with a gun on the 2600 block of West Lehigh Avenue in North Philadelphia. Arriving officers were met by the victim, a 24-year-old man, and his girlfriend, 23. The man, who had been shot once in the chest, was rushed to Temple University Hospital in critical condition.

The victim's girlfriend allegedly told detectives that, just before the shooting, she and her boyfriend were walking from his home to her car when a man snatched her purse. As her boyfriend chased the robber down Lehigh Avenue, a second man appeared and shot the victim in the chest, according to authorities.

Police said both offenders ran off together. They allegedly took $300 before discarding the purse, which was recovered by investigators.

Officers about a half hour later stopped three men walking on 25th Street between Harold and Huntingdon streets. Two of the men matched witness descriptions of the suspects, according to police.

Both Hall and Brown were arraigned early Saturday, and bail was set at $750,000 each. Both suspects are next due in court Feb. 18 for a preliminary hearing.
