Police: Suspect fleeing Del. bank robbery caught in 'mantrap'

A robbery suspect was arrested Thursday after he allegedly became stuck in a “mantrap” while fleeing a Citizens Bank in Newark, Del.

A robbery suspect was arrested Thursday after he allegedly became stuck in a "mantrap" while fleeing a Citizens Bank in Newark, Del.

Stephen Dunfee, 38, presented a teller with a demand note around 3:30 p.m. and was handed an undisclosed amount of cash, according to investigators.

But, as Dunfee attempted to leave, "bank personnel activated a security device known as a 'mantrap,' which remotely secures the interior and exterior doors of the bank," Delaware State Police said in a news release.

Though Dunfee allegedly attempted to escape from the vestibule, damaging the doors and glass, police said he remained trapped there until state troopers arrived and took him into custody.

He was awaiting arraignment Thursday night on charges of second-degree robbery and criminal mischief.
