Police: Man missing after boat overturns in Delaware River

One man is missing after a boat capsized Wednesday night in the Delaware River in Holmesburg.

Police said the boat carrying five people overturned shortly before 8 p.m. in the river along the 5200 block of Pennypack Street, behind the Philadelphia Fire Academy.

Only four people made it to shore, according to investigators.

One of the occupants, a man in his 70s, remained unaccounted for at 8:30 p.m., police said. Rescuers were unable to see the man or the boat.

It wasn’t immediately clear what caused the boat to capsize. Police marine units were investigating Wednesday night.
