Police ID pedestrian fatally hit by car near SEPTA station

Police have identified the woman who died after she was hit by a car near a SEPTA Regional Rail station.

Middletown Township police said 61-year-old Joan Schaffer, of Newtown, died from injuries she suffered when she crossed Woodbourne Road near the Woodbourne Station shortly before 7 a.m. Tuesday.

Schaffer had parked in the train station lot and was struck by a vehicle that was driving south on Woodbourne Road near the railroad crossing.

Police said the driver, who was not identified, remained at the scene and is cooperating with police.

No charges have been filed in connection with the incident.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the accident and any witnesses are asked to contact police at 215-750-3845, ext. 482.

The incident disrupted travel on SEPTA's West Trenton line for about three hours during the morning rush on Tuesday.
