Police: Former Jersey mayor died of drowning

The former South Jersey mayor whose body was found washed up on a Cape May County beach died of drowning, authorities said.

Jeffrey Radio, 43, was mayor of Clayton from 2009 to 2011. He was employed as a branch manager for Sun National Bank and served on the Clayton Public Schools Board of Education.

A news helicopter first spotted Radio's fully-clothed body on Tuesday washed ashore on a Strathmere beach. An autopsy by the regional medical examiner's office conducted Thursday determined Radio had drowned but did not ascertain if his death had been accidental, said a state police spokesman.

Radio had been reported missing to the Clayton police department Tuesday morning. He had gone to Atlantic City on Sunday in advance of a three day education conference.
