Police Commissioner Ramsey's son joins department ranks
The Philadelphia Police Department now has more than one Charles Ramsey on its payroll.
Charles Ramsey Jr., 27, graduated from the department's academy in a ceremony Wednesday afternoon at Temple University.
The Penn State University graduate, who previously worked at the city's Adult Probation and Parole Department, was one of the 47 recruits in the police academy's 367th class to become officers after six months' training, the department said.
Ramsey Sr. was not available for comment Thursday after leaving for a trip out of town, according to a department spokeswoman.
Six months ago, when his son started training at the academy, the commissioner said, "There is no way in the world I would let my son become part of an organization that I didn't have 100 percent faith in."
