Philly hits lowest temperature in a month

The temperature in Philadelphia dropped overnight to its lowest mark in a month.

Just before midnight, the mercury hit 67 degrees, according to the National Weather Service, ending Philadelphia's record-long string of days in which the temperature didn't fall below 70.

And in the early-morning hours, it got even cooler, with a temperature of 63 degrees recorded shortly before 5 a.m. at Philadelphia International Airport.

The last time Philadelphia saw a below-70 temperature was June 23, when the low was 67 degrees.

The record for consecutive days in Philadelphia with a minimum temeperature of 70 degrees or higher now stands at 30. That tops the 26-day record set between July 12 and Aug. 6, 1995, the weather service says.

Forecasters say to expect a high of 79 degrees today, with isolated rain showers and an overnight low of around 66. The weather service is callling for highs in the mid-80s on Friday and over the weekend.
