  • As chilly as Tuesday was, today is likely to be even colder.

A bitter cold stretch in the Philadelphia area continues today, with the National Weather Service forecasting a high temperature of just 23 degrees.

On Tuesday, at least, the mercury reached 27 -- but that was still 13 degrees below normal.

The forecast for today says Philadelphians should expect increasing clouds and winds of 9 to 14 mph. With the wind chill, temperatures will feel like single digits.

High temperatures aren't expected to reach the 30s until Sunday, according to the weather service.

The region shouldn't experience snow until Friday, when one to two inches could fall, according to AccuWeather. The weather service says there's a 60 percent chance of precipitation then, with snow most likely to fall between 4 p.m. Friday and 1 a.m. Saturday.

Though the area likely won't see much snow, any that does fall could cause more damage thanks to this week's cold front.

After multiple days of cold air, the potential snow and wintry mix "has a greater potential to adhere to paved and concrete surfaces, raising the risk of slippery conditions and travel delays," meteorologist Alex Sosnowski wrote on AccuWeather.com.

It's been two years since Philadelphia experienced a similar stretch of cold temperatures.

Obviously this cold weather proves that global warming is a myth. Also, the Earth is flat.

Brilliant deduction! Did this being the middle of January have anything to do with the prognosis?

Yes, TimmyDay, that is cold. But the real question is how much Genny Cream Ale do they have on hand?
