Pedestrian, motorcyclist killed in Schuylkill Expressway crash

A pedestrian and a motorcyclist were killed in an overnight crash on the Schuylkill Expressway.

Pennsylvania State Police said Arnold Khemdy was walking in an eastbound lane of Interstate 76 in Lower Merion Township at about 1 a.m., after he was in a one-vehicle crash on the ramp from Interstate 476 and to I-76.

The 20-year-old from North Wales had lost control of his vehicle and struck a guiderail, then left the scene on foot, police said.

Khemdy was about a mile away on I-76 when he was struck by a motocycle operated by 40-year-old Hour Song Chheng, of Philadelphia. Khemdy was thrown to the right shoulder of the road; Chheng lost control and was ejected from the motorcycle.

Both victims died at the scene.

Police said another vehicle was involved but didn't appear to play a part in the fatalities.

The expressway, a major traffic artery, was closed for about four hours overnight.
