One dead, one in custody after Northeast Philadelphia crash

A crash on Woodhaven Road near Thornton Road in Northeast Philadelphia left one man dead and a second in custody on suspicion of driving under the influence.

A two-car crash in Northeast Philadelphia left one man dead and a second facing criminal charges.

Two vehicles collided along the 3000 block of Woodhaven Road near Thornton Road around 12:30 a.m. Sunday, according to preliminary information provided by police.

Medics rushed one driver, a 53-year-old man, to Aria Health Torresdale. He died about a half-hour later. A female passenger, also 53, was taken to Aria Torresdale in critical condition.

The driver of the second vehicle was uninjured. Officers arrested the 26-year-old man on suspicion of driving under the influence, police said.

Neither his identity nor that of the man killed was immediately released.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation Sunday.
