Officials ID man shot by police in Camden
Investigators have released the identity of a man who was shot by police in Camden Friday night.
James Dickerson, 28, of Camden, is in stable condition at Cooper Hospital, the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office announced.
Prosecutors said four Camden County police officers responded to 7th and Sycamore streets shortly before 10 p.m. after receiving a report of a man with a gun.
The officers were confronted by Dickerson, who allegedly drew a weapon and fired several shots at them. Investigators said the officers returned fire, striking Dickerson in the leg.
“I am proud of the responding officers' actions and strongly support their actions when faced with the threat of deadly violence,” Camden County Police Chief Scott Thomson said in a statement.
Dickerson is being held in custody and will be transferred to the Camden County Jail when he is medically cleared. He will be charged with four counts of attempted murder and weapons offenses, prosecutors said.
The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office’s Major Crimes and Special Prosecutions units are reviewing the incident.
