An officer-involved shooting was reported in North Philadelphia this morning.
A police spokeswoman said the shooting happened on the 2400 block of North 5th Street.
Further details about the incident were not immediately available. The spokeswoman said she was awaiting information from officers at the scene.
Scanner reports and information from the Breaking News Network, which monitors police radio reports, indicated that a male suspect was in custody and the situation was under control.
The shooting happened the day after police Commissioner Charles Ramsey asked the U.S. Department of Justice to review the police department's use of deadly force. A Philly.com report earlier this month found that shootings by Philadelphia police officers skyrocketed in 2012.
Police in Philadelphia shot 52 suspects last year, killing 15 of them. As of Tuesday, officers had been involved in 19 shootings thus far in 2013, about 32 percent fewer than the same time period last year.
