Mayor Michael Nutter will speak in Washington D.C. this week at the National Press Club on a topic he has addressed nationally before: violence in American cities.
Nutter and New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu will give a joint speech titled " A National Call for Action to End the Violence Crisis in U.S. Cities" on Thursday.
"The speech seeks to to focus on the daily grind of violence in our streets and what we can do about it," Nutter said in a statement released Monday. "This is a national problem with national implications that requires a national response. We need everyone to do their part."
It's not his first time in Washington this year to discuss urban violence. Just last month, Nutter and other big city mayors met with President Barack Obama to discuss the issue. In June, Nutter stepped down after a term as president of the U.S. Conference of Mayors.
