N.J. woman admits to shaken baby death

A South Jersey woman admitted Thursday to causing the shaken baby death of a child she was babysitting in 2011.

Sheila Polanski, 36, of Westville, pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter in connection with the death of 2-year-old Gloucester City child Madeline McHenry.

Polanski said that, as she was babysitting McHenry July 5, 2011, she shook the child and slammed her onto the floor. Polanski also delayed seeking medical treatment after the child became unresponsive, she admitted.

McHenry was taken to the hospital and died two days later.

Prosecutors said they’ll recommended a jail sentence of 12 years, 85 percent of which Polanski will be required to serve before being eligible for parole.

Polanski is slated to be sentenced May 2.
