N.J. soldier found dead at Fort Hood

A soldier from New Jersey was found dead in his barracks room at Fort Hood.

Army officials today identified the soldier as 24-year-old Sgt. Jose Joaquin Suarez, of Millville.

The Army said Suarez was found unresponsive in his room on Dec. 26. He was taken to Carl R. Darnall Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The circumstances of his death are under investigation.

He joined the Army in June 2006 as an information systems operator-analyst. Suarez was deployed in Iraq from September 2007 to September 2008 and was deployed in Afghanistan from December 2011 to December 2012, Army officials said.

Suarez had been assigned to Fort Hood's headquarters detachment, 720th military police company, 89th military police brigade since January 2011.
