Mega Millions jackpot hit twice

Locally, a lot of loot was won Saturday in Powerball, Cash 5.

A Mega Millions jackpot of $400 million was hit by tickets in Maryland and Florida on March 18, 2014.

The Mega Millions jackpot finally has a winner ... actually, two winners.

Tickets sold in Maryland and Florida will split a jackpot with an advertised annuity of $400 million. If they take the cash instead, which is what almost all winners do, they'll haul in $112 million each. Before taxes, that is.

The jackpot, which had been building since the beginning of January, had the tenth most cash in U.S. lottery history.

Pennsylvania didn't even have one of the eight runners-up, though Delaware County and Philadelphia did get lucky in Powerball and Cash 5 Saturday night. (See details below.)

The Mega Millions jackpot winners matched all the numbers drawn Tuesday night: 11, 19, 24, 33 and 51, with a Mega Ball of 7.

The tickets were sold at a Sunoco in Merritt Island, Fla., and in Charles County, which is south of Washington, D.C., according to officials.

Those two states also had three of the tickets that missed only the Mega Ball. Florida and New York each had two, while Maryland, Illinois, Texas and California each sold one. They won $1 million each, except for the California ticket, which will pay more than $1.9 million under that state's pari-mutuel system. It was sold at Huntingon Liquor in San Bruno.

No tickets matched the first five numbers while having the Megaplier multiplier option, which would have tripled the prize.

With the jackpot rebooting to $15 million for Friday's drawing, Powerball now has the bigger jackpot, $80 million for tonight's drawing.

Big wins in Delaware County, Philadelphia. In Saturday's Powerball drawing, $1 million was won by a ticket sold at Broomall BP, 2590 West Chester Pike, in Broomall. It matched the first five numbers drawn -- 2, 5, 34, 51 and 58 -- but not the Powerball of 9.

Philadelphia was also lucky on Saturday night (March 15), as a $325,000 Cash 5 jackpot was hit by a ticket sold at the Tyson Citgo at 6962 Frankford Ave.  It matched all five numbers: 2, 6, 12, 20 and 21.
