Man sought in Mayfair vending machine explosion

Police are looking for the man who placed an explosive device in a vending machine in Philadelphia's Mayfair section, causing the machine to blow up.

The blast happened at about 10:45 p.m. Thursday, when surveillance video shows a man approaching the soda machine on the 6600 block of Montague Street with a lit object. The man then flees. The machine is consumed by flames, then blows apart.

Philadelphia police said the investigators from department's bomb disposal unit and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives responded to the scene. Inside the machine, they found "remnants of a cardboard tube indicative of an improvised explosive device," police said.

The suspect captured in surveillance video is described as a man wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, blue shorts with white stripes and dark-colored shoes.
