A shooting in North Philadelphia early Saturday left a man dead and a woman hospitalized.

Officers responded shortly before 12:30 a.m. to the 1600 block of North 26th Street, where they found a 28-year-old man seated inside a red Nissan Altima, police said. He had been shot multiple times in his chest and upper torso.

The man was rushed to Temple University Hospital, where he died about a half-hour later.

Police said a 19-year-old woman was taken to the Homicide Unit and found to have suffered a gunshot wound to her left calf during the same incident. She was taken to Hahnemann University Hospital and placed in stable condition.

Investigators recovered 15 spent .40-caliber shell casings from crime scenes processed on the 1600 block of North 26th Street and around the corner, on the 2500 block of Nicholas Street, police said.

The male victim, who lived on the 2400 block of West Redner Street, was not immediately identified. A possible motive for the shooting was not disclosed, and police reported no arrests.
