A man was killed Sunday morning after being struck by a SEPTA Regional Rail train in Fern Rock.

A train headed to the Philadelphia International Airport struck the man around 9:45 a.m. as he was walking in the track area near the 900 block of West Olney Avenue, just south of the Fern Rock Transportation Center, a SEPTA spokeswoman said.

The man, described only as being in his 60s, was knocked to the side of the tracks and suffered extensive injuries, police said.

He was rushed to Albert Einstein Medical Center, where he died shortly before 10:30 a.m. His identity was not immediately released.

Transit officials said the train that struck the man stopped at the scene, and about 70 passengers were transferred to a bus to complete their commutes.

Normal Regional Rail service through the Fern Rock Transportation Center resumed shortly before 11 a.m., but officials said residual delays were possible.

An investigation into the incident remained ongoing Sunday.
