Student found dead at Chestnut Hill College

Authorities are investigating after a student was found dead at Chestnut Hill College this morning.

Philadelphia police said officials received a report of an unresponsive man in St. Joseph Hall. Medics responded to the scene, and the 22-year-old was pronounced dead at 8:46 a.m.

The college identified him as Bradley Amerman, a senior business major.

Police said the death was "sudden" and authorities were working to determine how Amerman died. No signs of foul play were immediately reported.

Amerman was from Mount Joy in Lancaster County, the Associated Press reported.

According to stories in The Griffin student newspaper, Amerman had been sophomore class president and a member of the college's Quidditch World Cup team. He suffered a serious cut on his chin during a Nov. 12, 2011 match on Randall's Island in New York City, the newspaper reported at the time.

The school wouldn't provide further details about the death, citing the ongoing investigation.

"Under any circumstances, the events of today have left our campus community shocked and filled with sadness for Bradley David Amerman and his family," a school statement said. "We ask that you join us in continuing to keep the Amerman family in your prayers at this time of great sorrow."

Seniors will graduate during May 10 commencement ceremonies at the college.
